A gloss and toner are often used interchangeably but they are two different treatments that have two different purposes! They each give a shiny, soft effect to your hair but they are used in different scenarios. Let’s discuss the difference and which treatment is best for you and your hair!

What Is a Toner?
A toner is designed to correct the actual tone of your hair. It works by neutralizing unwanted undertones that may appear after lightening your hair. For example, blonde hair can develop yellow or brassy tones, while brunette hair may pull unwanted orange or red hues. A toner helps adjust these unwanted shades to create a cooler, warmer, or more balanced result based on the desired outcome.
They don’t significantly lighten or darken your hair, but adjust the tone of the hair after the lightener is washed out. Depending on your hair type and maintenance routine, the results typically last anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks.

What Is a Hair Gloss?
A gloss is conditioning first. The primary job of a gloss is to smooth the hair cuticle and boost the vibrancy of your color. Gloss treatments can be clear or tinted. A clear gloss adds shine without changing your hair color, while a tinted gloss can subtly refresh faded color, enhance depth, or add warmth or coolness. They’re a great option for anyone looking to extend the life of their color in between lightening services!

When Should I Get a Gloss?
Glosses can be booked as a standalone service so we recommend coming in for a gloss every 4-6 weeks and/or in between coloring services. If you notice your hair fading, looking dull, or want to refresh the tone of your hair, a gloss is a great option for you!
Discuss with your stylist the best maintenance timeline for you based on your hair routine, heat usage, hair type, and other factors.
