Hair Affair Recap

Our Vision

We wanted to bring something different to the table that no other Salon would think of.  We were the newest and smallest employee-based Salon to participate. We wanted to gain the respect of our peers and gain exposure as professional artists within our community.  We believe we did just that.

We brought Salvador Dali’s fantasy of Mae West to life!   (painting is located on the upper left hand corner)  Salvador Dali was a famous surrealist painter who blew the minds of his audience.  Mae West was a 1930’s actress who was known to push the sexual boundaries, just as Lady Gaga is doing today.

We wanted to bring Art to the Museum along with a “Contemporary” twist which our painting allowed us to do because there’s no wardrobe shown.  We were able to create our own modern day Mae West from the neck down.  Our “Mae West” will essentially be “walking out of the frame” into our modern day  world.

Struggles/Solutions

1. How would we build a picture frame into her costume in a way that no one could tell how it’s attached and have it lightweight enough for our model to wear all night?

The answer:  Jeremy Pings/ Start to Finish, LLC.

2. How are we going to sew her costume?  She wore a leotard, a military style tuxedo jacket with tails and everything had to be custom created to build our picture frame into.

The answer: Our client, Rosalind Bushnell.  Rosi is the mother of our very own, Becky Bushnell who is the Artist who provides our in-house paintings!

3. Where are we going to find a model that has “old-school” curves with a tiny waist and long blonde locks?

The answer: Brooke Krall/ Brooke Marie Photography
