In 2011 we were introduced to a new-to-the-scene product line called, DevaCurl. We heard about Lorraine Massey, the author of the book “Curly Girl” and the creator of DevaCurl products. Lorraine used to receive curly haircuts in London but they’d always disappoint. The stylist would cut her hair after straightening it. The problem was, she wore her hair curly, so when she wore her hair naturally curly after one of her expensive haircuts, it would never lay correctly. Can anyone relate? She thought there had to be a better way so she learned the craft herself. Lorraine created a unique cutting method that would no longer disrupt the natural curl pattern. She also realized that most products were too drying for her hair. She worked hard to create a cleanser without a lather and highly conditioning styling products.
We knew that this was the future. Families are more diverse and our community is growing in diversity. We knew that we had to learn the DevaCurl way! We invested in the product line and brought a tremendous amount of education to our salon throughout the years. We are so in love with the dry haircutting and natural drying and styling process—we even have a stylist on our team, Whitney Coburn, who is an educator for DevaCurl.
Each stylist at our salon goes through our specialized training so they’re confident and equipped to take care of our curly guests. Each stylist at Be Inspired Salon has gone through DevaCurl’s certification process, which they call “Inspired”. How fitting?!
Since 2011, we have witnessed countless life-changing moments in our salon. Whether it’s a mom who struggled to care for their child’s hair or a woman in her fifties who had never loved her hair until experiencing the DevaCurl difference. At any given time in our salon, fifty-percent of our guests have natural curly hair.
Working with curly hair is more than a service we can provide. It’s massive part of our everyday lives. We are the only salon in the greater Madison area whose entire team is working with all curly hair patterns each and every day. We are so passionate about our curly guests!
