Hair Color on Your Budget

How should you get your hair colored?

This depends on your ability to budget for the upkeep. Here are some great tips we’ve learned from Andrea Pomerantz Lustig, Author of “How to Look Expensive”.

Budget

Lets not forget your professional hair care products as well. If you use harsh products that strip your hair color…you will not be happy and neither will your Stylist, because your color and the integrity of your hair will not last.

IF YOU CAN AFFORD COLOR EVERY 6 MONTHS

Sombre is for you! This is a coloring technique that will softly enhance lighter pieces of hair around your face and/or on the bottom third of your hair’s ends.

NOTE: this is not ombre…where you’d have 4 levels of difference between your scalp to ends. This is Soft-Ombre…sombre which gives you 1-2 levels difference.

IF YOU CAN AFFORD COLOR EVERY 3-4 MONTHS

Full or partial highlights are okay as long as you keep depth (lowlights) in your color story. Your highlights should be very thin nearing your roots. This will prevent a noticeable line of outgrowth which we call demarcation.

If you break your base, meaning you slightly alter your natural haircolor in between your highlights and lowlights, please keep in mind you may need to visit your Salon for a 5 minute base bump approximately every 6-8 weeks.

IF YOU CAN AFFORD COLOR EVERY 4-6 WEEKS

You may have permanent single process (all over) color. And you may have highlights, lowlights, almost anything you like. We say “almost” because of some outrageous presumptions some people may have about their hair,..but you may have almost any color you’d like.

We recommend communicating your desires with your Stylist and trusting their custom color plan. Click here and discover which stylist is the best match for you!
