Don’t Try This Color at Home!

May we add that it’s best practices to avoid all at-home colors? It’s true. But today, we have to share a trend that is wreaking havoc on people’s hair. Salons and stylists nationwide are trying to spread the word—Don’t do this at home.

NO-NO TO OVERTONE

The brand, oVertone and the brand, Splat are a part of a group of new at-home hair colors that we recommend you avoid. The goal of these products is to give you the easiest and cheapest path to vibrant, vivid hair tones. The risk? They’re a nightmare to remove!

Their technology isn’t as mindful as the professional hair color used by top professionals. Their ingredients cause the color to disrupt even natural, virgin, hair. This means, once it’s time for either a touch-up or a change, you have just a handful of choices after putting these colors on your hair.

  1. Put more of their color on—will make it even harder to change someday…
  2. Go darker to cover it up.
  3. Grow your hair out.
  4. Get your hair professionally corrected.
  5. Embrace more of a 2019 Billie Eilish look—which is okay, too! But we bet that Billy gets her hair done professionally ?

IT’LL COST YOU

The cost for getting your hair professionally corrected after using products like these isn’t just financial. Color corrections can take multiple visits to the salon that can last four to six hours per visit. The average salon charges $150 per hour for color corrections. Be Inspired Salon offers transformation color services that range between $550-$350 per visit. This is because you’d be receiving multiple processes within each visit. And in a professional salon setting such as ours, the stylists are going to ensure to the best of their ability, the utmost care for your hair.

At our salon, we will do a test-strand, which is taking a strand of your hair and trying to color or lighten it to see how it will react prior to doing that service on your entire head—so it’s safe to say, we are going to take the safest route as possible to maintain as much integrity to your hair’s health as possible.

We do this because we have seen many cases where the hair breaks or even dissolves. This is no joke! Our hair is a fabric. Some of us have silk-like hair, cotton-like hair, or wool-like hair. And we’ve put how many chemicals on that same fabric over-and-over? The answer is, we do a lot to the same head of hair—the same fabric on our head. So we cannot assume that the box color we used six months ago won’t have any impact on the color we receive today.
