A disconnected haircut is when there are sections of your hair that are intentionally cut shorter or kept longer. It’s sort of like it’s own haircut within a haircut. Here is one example of a disconnected undercut.
We section off your hair near the occipital bone and usually at a diagonal so the top layer will lay softly on top. It’s a secret little party under there! Why would we do this? Well, first, we would do this to help remove a ton of bulk. If you’re someone with very thick hair, this may feel awesome to have the underneath section by your neck—or what we would refer to as your nape—shaved into a cool design. When you wear your hair up, you have an awesome super-woman look to your hairstyle. And when you wear your hair down, you don’t even know that it’s there!
Another example of a disconnected hairstyle is a modern mullet! We promise that this is very cool. For the right person, embracing this rock-inspired hairstyle is all the rage. In this look we are intentionally cutting the top of your hair, and the front of your face-framing, shorter than the (again) party in the back!
Finally, what you may not realize is, many hairstyles have disconnected elements to it. Having bangs is a disconnect from the rest of the haircut. Certain layering techniques are disconnected, and you would never know or see this throughout the hairstyle. All these advanced haircutting trends are applied in a custom way so that every guest has exactly what they desire—beautiful hair that is easy to style on their own. We all have a unique head shape, face shape, cowlicks, swirls, curls, and textures. The best part about working with a hairstylist at Be Inspired Salon is, we see how perfectly unique you were created, and we customize your haircut to be perfect for you.
